AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The document devoted significant attention to the crises in Palestine and Lebanon, stressing the need for peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflicts. BRICS nations urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and pursue diplomatic channels amid rising regional tensions, including those linked to the Palestine crisis and instability stemming from confrontation between the United States and Iran.
On Gaza, the declaration voiced alarm at the humanitarian conditions in the territory and the occupied Palestinian areas. Member states called for the continuation of the ceasefire and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian assistance to the affected population. They opposed the forced displacement of Palestinians by Israel and condemned violations of international human rights and humanitarian law. These included the use of starvation as a method of warfare, the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, attacks on health facilities and other essential services, and unlawful obstruction of aid.
The group reaffirmed its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). It also referenced the case brought by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice, citing the court’s interim orders that underline Israel’s legal obligations regarding humanitarian access in Gaza.
BRICS countries restated their backing for a two-state solution as the political path forward. The declaration called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Turning to Lebanon, the text urged Israel to respect the ceasefire in force and to withdraw its remaining forces from Lebanese territory.
Ken Moriyasu, senior fellow for greater Asia at the Hudson Institute, noted that the declaration linked a durable and just resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict to the fulfilment of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the rights to self-determination and return.
